Robert Half Management Resources is seeking an experienced interim Human Resources Business Partner to support leaders and employees within a unionized workforce for a professional services client in Los Angeles, California, on a 5+ month engagement.
About the role
This role will focus on aligning HR practices with business and operational objectives while ensuring compliance with employment laws, internal policies, and collective bargaining agreements. The consultant will play a critical role in strengthening employee relations, providing guidance on performance management, and equipping managers to address complex workplace matters with confidence and consistency.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with department leaders to align staffing strategies, team structure, and people initiatives with business priorities.
- Advise managers on employee relations matters, performance concerns, and workplace challenges to support consistent and effective decision-making.
- Apply and interpret collective bargaining agreements to ensure day-to-day practices remain compliant with contractual obligations.
- Act as a point of contact between management and union representatives to foster constructive labor-management communication.
- Conduct or support workplace investigations and help address employee concerns in a timely and thorough manner.
- Assist with grievance reviews, fact-finding, and resolution efforts within a union environment.
- Contribute to programs that improve employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and overall workforce performance.
- Support HR administration and policy application while maintaining compliance with employment laws and internal standards.
- Utilize HR systems such as ADP HRB to help manage records, reporting, and HR-related processes where needed.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of human resources experience, including substantial work in an HR Business Partner capacity.
- Prior experience supporting unionized employee populations and working with collective bargaining agreements is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of employee relations, workplace investigations, and grievance handling.
- Solid understanding of HR policies, employment law, and compliant HR administration practices.
- Experience guiding managers through performance management and other sensitive employee matters.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with leadership, employees, and union representatives.
- Familiarity with ADP HRB or comparable HR systems is preferred.
