About the role
The HR Generalist provides proactive human resources support for retail operation members in areas including training, recruitment, employee relations, and benefits. This role manages the delivery of HR policies, executes business-specific projects and initiatives, and supports safety programs and company procedures. The HR Generalist assists management teams and associates by interpreting policies, providing advice on employee issues, and implementing practices and programs for their assigned region. The position has a strong focus on employee relations and safety/risk management.
Responsibilities
- Coach and advise all levels of management in employee relations, workers' compensation, and risk management/safety support.
- Monitor employee counseling, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans; oversee involuntary termination procedures; and approve employee separation notices and related documentation.
- Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Provide direction and assistance on documentation for leave-related matters, including FMLA, Workers' Comp, safety, and ADA accommodations.
- Mediate and resolve employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigations, especially for sensitive issues like sexual harassment and discrimination.
- Represent the organization at unemployment hearings and workers' compensation settlements, as needed.
- Provide recruitment support to hiring managers, including facilitating interviews and performance appraisal meetings.
- Perform periodic training and audits.
- Develop and drive analytical reports for managers in the HR Department.
- Assist the Employee Relations Manager in reviewing reports, accident data, and audits to evaluate future needs for improvements.
- Assist with the modification and/or development of policies and procedures, including employee handbooks.
- Assist in employee relations investigations and documentation.
- Support various Human Resource projects as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years of human resources experience in a high-volume employee relations setting with at least 500+ employees.
- Bachelor's Degree in HR, Applied Behavioral Sciences, Industrial Relations, or another relevant field, or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong background managing complex employee relations investigations and resolving potential company litigation issues.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with employees, leadership, and external contacts.
- Previous experience working with FMLA and/or leave administration as a primary point of contact.
- PHR/SHRM-CP Certification preferred.
- Prior experience working in Retail is required.
- Knowledge of current employee relations practices, as well as State & Federal labor & employment law.
- Results-driven with a high quality of work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams).
- Able to prioritize workload and multi-task assignments when facing deadlines.
- May be required to work evenings or weekends, as business demands dictate.
- Previous experience working with Kronos is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including large group presentations.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to self-monitor in terms of meeting deadlines and working with little supervision.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
