About the role

Pratt Industries is seeking a Human Resources Generalist for the North Central Converting Division based in Grand Rapids, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all phases of employment including advertising, recruiting, interviewing, testing, placement of personnel, orientation programs, exit interviews, and unemployment compensation hearings.
  • Investigate hotline calls and employee complaints to seek positive resolution in a speedy manner.
  • Administer all employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, FMLA, vacation, and paid sick leave.
  • Serve as the primary contact for managers and employees on all human resource-related matters, working under the supervision of the HR Manager.
  • Maintain and administer HR reports and records as required by state and federal laws.
  • Maintain and update personnel files and I-9 files.
  • Manage temporary agencies supplying labor to the plant and hold them accountable to Pratt Industries hiring criteria.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Travel to other locations as designated by the Divisional HR Manager on an as-needed basis.
  • Multitask in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Two to four years of experience in human resources or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Management, or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Preferred SPHR or PHR certification.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements, business periodicals, professional journals, regulatory laws, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and employees.
  • Mathematical skills to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Proficient knowledge and application of HR laws and regulations.
  • Experience with ADP preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, hear, sit, and stand.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • Noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.
