Human Resources Business Partner

The HR Business Partner provides HR leadership for a geographical market, focusing on building relationships with field employees and management while driving and executing key HR and operational initiatives and programs. This position works directly with market leadership to ensure alignment between HR and Operations initiatives and partners closely with the Flynn Support Center as an operations liaison.
Responsibilities
- Creates a partnership with the ATL Operations team, particularly with the Director of Operations, to ensure proper staffing and strategy implementation to keep gyms fully staffed.
- Participates in or conducts regular Manager Training classes for new and current managers, focusing on administrative duties and HR-related topics, with a shift toward people-centric training modules over time.
- Conducts regular gym visits to build relationships with managers and team members while assessing employee engagement and Planet Fitness culture.
- Manages employee relations, including field employee phone calls and emails, answering questions directly or routing them to the appropriate HR or Support Center contact.
- Assists with succession planning, sourcing, and recruitment (internal and external).
- Partners with and provides guidance to Regional Managers and the Director of Operations regarding terminations and disciplinary actions.
- Ensures the performance management process and supporting documentation are executed per company standards.
- Directs the investigation and resolution of employee relations issues and EEOC charge responses.
- Acts as a consultant to managers for employee relations activities, including complaints and documentation.
- Partners with the Director of Operations on onboarding for new management (Welcome, Benefits, Orientation, Training Calendar).
- Ensures the market is up to date on all labor-related compliance (posters, files, I-9s, minor work permits, payroll edits, breaks, etc.).
- Stays abreast of upcoming or pending legislation and works with HR leadership/legal to implement process or policy changes.
- Partners with the Director of Operations, Area Directors, and others on bench plan tracking and review.
- Ensures all annual and state-specific required training is completed.
- Serves as the main point of contact for HRIS processes from field management, ensuring correct processes are followed (transfers, LOA, background checks, documentation, etc.) and approvals are granted.
- Tracks changes for reporting purposes.
- Partners with Regional Management to manage the execution of the offer letter process for internal promotions or external hires.
- Manages the background check process and consults with management when necessary.
- Reviews and monitors driver compliance.
- Ensures employee performance reviews occur at all levels per company timelines and standards.
- Requires regular travel and an active presence across the Virginia market to build and maintain key relationships.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of related HR experience, preferably in a similar role/environment with multi-units.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Professional HRCI or SHRM certification is a plus.
- Demonstrates high integrity and a high level of HR professionalism and expertise.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with multiple priorities and adaptability to handle day-to-day work challenges confidently.
- High standards and a drive for excellence with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with people at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to lead and influence others in non-reporting relationships.
