Human Resources Assistant - DOW Skillbridge Program
Position Overview
The Human Resources Assistant (SkillBridge Intern) is an entry-level training position designed for transitioning service members seeking civilian experience in Human Resources. This structured 120-day program provides comprehensive exposure to core HR functions through a blended learning model that includes formal instruction and supervised on-the-job application. Under the guidance of senior HR leadership, the trainee will develop foundational knowledge and practical skills in recruitment, onboarding, compliance, employee records management, benefits administration, payroll support, training coordination, employee relations, performance management, and HR administration. This position is developmental in nature and prepares participants for entry-level HR roles in the civilian workforce.
Program Structure
The program consists of:
- 120 Days of Training
- 40 Hours Per Week
- 16 Hours Structured Individual Instruction
- 24 Hours Supervised On-the-Job Training
Training is delivered by the Director of Administrative and Finance Operations and Human Capital, a senior HR executive with over 21 years of experience.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
During the SkillBridge internship, the HR Assistant trainee will receive instruction and practical experience in the following areas:

- New Hire Onboarding and Orientation
- Employee Records and HRIS
- Benefits and Payroll Support
- Training and Development Support

- HR Administration and Process Improvement
Required Qualifications
- Acteduty service member approved for participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required)
- Strong interest in Human Resources or business administration
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional demeanor and willingness to learn
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problemsolving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with tools like Google Share Drive, Canva, Mailchimp, or similar platforms
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to improving processes and systems

- Experience that may support eligibility toward future HR certifications (e.g., aPHR, PHR), depending on certifying body requirements
Work Environment
