Human Resources Assistant
About the role
The City of Oakdale is seeking an HR Assistant to join their Human Resources team. This is an early career-level role with opportunities for growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with other staff to provide excellent and responsive public service
- Provide initial support for staff, applicants, and the public on inquiries related to Oakdale hiring and employment
- Aid in onboarding and offboarding employees, ensuring thorough, timely, and professional experiences
- Aid in the development, tracking, and maintenance of training records and continuing education needs
- Coordinate quarterly random CDL drug testing and reporting
- Aid in processing payroll and deduction changes each pay period, ensuring appropriate backup documentation
- Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as they are created, updated, or changed; recommend updates as needed
- Proactively suggest changes or modifications to department processes or procedures to enhance their effectiveness
- Support the annual open enrollment process, including employee support, verification of requested changes, and clear communication materials
- Participate in employee appreciation events and activities, providing department support and expertise
- May assist with employee committees (Benefits, Safety & Wellness, others)
- Provide updates to Human Resources Director on department matters
- Able to draft and modify professional memos and letters; able to prepare internal promotional and event materials
- Make recommendations to improve service delivery and the employee experience
- Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned

Pay
Medical: Medica (three plan options) - City contribution for both single and family premiums, as well as HSA contributions in accordance with City policy.
Dental: Mutual of Omaha - Four tiers of coverage are available.
Life insurance: Mutual of Omaha - The City provides a life insurance coverage for employees. Additional coverage may be purchased if you choose to do so.
Short-Term Disability: Mutual of Omaha - The City offers pays the premium for this coverage which provides for up to 66.67% of your normal weekly pay, up to $400 for up to 12 weeks and is payable on the 8th day of disability.
Long-Term Disability: Mutual of Omaha - The City offers pays the premium for this coverage which provides for up to 60% of your normal monthly pay, up to $3,000 per month and starts on the 90th day of disability.

Schedule
Part-time employees who are employed on a schedule of more than twenty hours per week receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.
