HUC / Health Unit Coordinator - Observation/ Neuro Med Surg

Major Responsibilities

Captures tests and treatments scheduled with and between various departments for patients on nursing units.

Maintains knowledge of diagnostic and treatment services to facilitate test and treatment scheduling.

Facilitates communications for patient care including multiple-line telephone, unit/site paging, and hospital information system.

Screens incoming calls and monitors department office equipment, troubleshooting minor issues.

Arranges repairs for major malfunctions and processes daily patient charges through the EMR system.

Compiles necessary chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations.

Obtains appropriate medical records for transfers to nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.

Verifies medical records for completeness and accuracy, including patient demographics, identification, and registration.

Maintains positive customer relations and contributes to a harmonious work environment.

Responds quickly and courteously to patient requests and demonstrates proper phone etiquette.

Requirements

No experience required.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate, GED, or HSED.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
  • Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Functional vision, hearing, and speech.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
