HS Teacher, Social Studies, (1.0 FTE), Temp

This is a full-time, temporary position for the 2026-2027 school year, anticipated to start September 14, 2026 and end March 5, 2027. An endorsement in Social Studies is required.

About the role

The employee is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of Social Studies following district-approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. This includes ensuring student safety and fostering an inclusive learning environment through guidance, discipline, and attention to each student's readiness to learn. The role focuses on preparing students for productive citizenship through civics, history, geography, and economics, with mandatory implementation of updated standards—including ethnic studies. Key responsibilities involve analyzing U.S./Oregon government, researching diverse perspectives, evaluating source credibility, and demonstrating civic responsibility in a pluralistic society.

Responsibilities

• Teach Social Studies in alignment with district-approved curriculum and standards.
• Implement updated standards, including ethnic studies, in lesson planning and instruction.
• Analyze U.S. and Oregon government structures and civic processes.
• Incorporate diverse perspectives and evaluate source credibility in teaching materials.
• Promote civic responsibility and engagement in a pluralistic society.
• Ensure student safety, welfare, and appropriate behavior through effective classroom management.
• Collaborate with colleagues in a professional learning community.
• Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff both verbally and in writing.
• Utilize multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques to meet diverse student needs.
• Apply knowledge of child and adolescent development to curriculum selection and instructional practices.
• Integrate technology to support instruction, assessment, and learning.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university.
• Possess or ability to obtain Oregon licensure with a Subject Matter Endorsement in Social Studies.
• Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to engaging diverse populations.
• Evidence of continuous professional learning and commitment to professional growth.
• Demonstrated content knowledge in Social Studies for secondary education.
• Ability to use culturally responsive teaching strategies.
• Skill in classroom management and maintaining acceptable student behavior.

Pay

Annual salary range for the 2025-2026 school year: $58,788 - $111,463 (193-day contract). Initial placement is based on education and experience. This salary reflects 1.0 FTE; actual salary is prorated based on FTE and start date. Stipends are also prorated based on start/end dates.

• Additional stipend of $2,500 if certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
• Additional stipend of $3,000 if holding a PhD or EdD.

The district participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). Upon eligibility (working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position), the employee contributes 6% via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year may qualify.
