HR Specialist

Ultium Cells, LLC is a joint venture lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd. and General Motors. This $2.3 billion facility features the latest battery cell manufacturing technology and will produce cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

About the role

The HR Specialist will establish, revise, and enforce practices that ensure assigned teams hire, develop, and retain the right talent while fostering a productive, high-morale work environment.

Responsibilities

• Coach and counsel employees, supervisors, and team leadership on employee relations and performance topics.
• Conduct investigations as needed.
• Monitor team-level headcount gaps and partner with leadership to determine solutions.
• Facilitate and advise on performance management at the team level, including corrective actions, separations, investigations, hourly and salary evaluations, and goal-setting cadence.
• Partner with leaders to address poor performers.
• Conduct retention checks (new hires and established members), track and report results, identify trends and gaps, and implement solutions.
• Manage policies and procedures; identify and implement revisions to drive positive culture change.
• Actively participate in bi-monthly Strategic Talent Review meetings.
• Analyze turnover and team-level trends; partner with leadership to implement improvement actions.
• Guide team leadership in organizational structure decisions and changes.
• Encourage rewards and recognition participation among team leaders, production leaders, and supervisors.
• Facilitate team-level engagement events and activities.
• Maintain a frequent presence on the production floor; know team members by name.
• Actively participate in monthly meetings for assigned areas.
• Attend production, staff, and pre-shift meetings as needed.
• Determine supervisor meeting topics; facilitate and train on a rotation.
• Actively participate and lead topics in HR meetings.
• Identify opportunities for stay interviews and focus groups; schedule and facilitate discussions.
• Field policy, benefits, leave, pay, and other questions for team members and leadership; identify trends.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8-hour shift (hours vary based on business needs).
• Training schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for up to 3 months.

Requirements

• HR-related degree, certification(s), or commensurate experience (equivalent work experience may substitute for a degree).
• 0–3 years of HR Business Partner or well-rounded Generalist experience in a manufacturing company.
• Experience supporting the business at both individual contributor and leadership levels.
• Professional HR certification(s) preferred but not required.
• Exceptional listening and communication skills; ability to understand intent before responding or advising.
• Employee may be exposed to or work with hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste; initial and annual refresher training on RCRA, SWPP, SPCC, and emergency escalation will be provided.
