HR Manager - St. Louis/Salem
Join our community of food professionals as a Human Resource Manager, supporting the Area Director of HR in executing the area vision, direction, and goals. This role helps create a safe, inclusive, and engaging culture while ensuring the organization has the right talent in the right roles at the right time.
About the role
Based in St. Louis, this position requires travel twice per month to Salem (MO) and the Offsite Metro location. The HR Manager leads recruitment, policy interpretation, employee relations, performance management, and training. You will facilitate timely resolution of employee relations issues, support operations with collective bargaining agreements in union facilities, and act as a thought partner in identifying gaps in the associate experience.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a genuine safety culture that fosters employee well-being through engagement and leadership accountability.
- Advocate for a positive employee experience and high engagement, identifying and escalating risks as needed.
- Promote a positive work environment that drives engagement, retention, and performance through consistent execution of LEAD Plays.
- Utilize data and insights to identify opportunities and make recommendations (e.g., EPS action planning).
- Participate in developing department goals and objectives, executing plans to meet them.
- Advise supervisors and managers on Company policy application to ensure consistency and accurate interpretation.
- Facilitate training, such as orientation or leader development.
- Support communication and change campaigns for strategic HR and business priorities, driving employee adoption.
- Lead investigations with support from the Area Director of HR, partnering with Compliance on investigations they lead.
- Support recruitment efforts, develop staffing and retention strategies, and manage onboarding, PIPs, and IDPs.
- Review and coach on hourly-level disciplinary and performance management actions.
- Provide coaching and consulting support to Area leaders in talent assessment, planning, and performance management.
- Lead leave administration practices, provide guidance for the interactive process under ADA, and support the Workers Compensation Program.
- Collaborate with market leaders to align HR practices with business objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of US Foods procedures, employment laws, and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Maintain documentation related to personnel activities, including staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, and disciplinary actions.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of HR experience, with at least 4 in a professional (non-administrative) role.
- Experience consulting with and advising small management teams.
- Strong foundation in core HR fundamentals to support and advise on various HR practices and processes.
- Familiarity with employment legislation such as ADA, FMLA, EEOC, FLSA, and Title VII.
- Working knowledge of MS Office software; HRIS familiarity; effective presentation skills.
- Travel required: 10-15%.
- Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record in good standing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- SHRM certification desirable.
- Prior employee relations experience and experience working in a collective bargaining environment preferred.
- Prior experience with affirmative action requirements at a Federal government contractor preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to make timely and informed decisions and understand when to escalate issues.

Pay
The expected base rate for this role is between $70,000 and $115,000, depending on relevant experience, education, skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law.
