Responsibilities

  • Coach and consult employees and leaders on critical HR processes (e.g., staffing initiatives, onboarding, performance management, development planning, rewards planning, policy interpretation). Serve as a local extension to align corporate business strategies and ensure desired outcomes.
  • Provide recommendations on day-to-day HR problems and issues.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in employee relations, conducting investigations and leading cases to effective closure. Advise managers on appropriate corrective actions.
  • Recommend revisions to policies and practices to align with best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Manage payroll processes for the plant’s hourly workforce.
  • Drive a unified site people strategy by collaborating with plant leadership to:
    • Review trends and key people metrics, addressing improvement opportunities at the Kettering operation.
    • Progress engagement action plans, including diversity and inclusion, local engagement committees, and community initiatives.
  • Communicate key business updates, strategy, and leadership messages; serve as a change champion for communications.
  • Create and drive change management plans for major site-level changes.
  • Reinforce and support talent development and succession action plans in partnership with the plant leadership team.
  • Provide additional support as needed (e.g., project teams, business partner work).
  • Partner with HR support teams (Compensation and Benefits, Legal Compliance, Talent Acquisition) on annual processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an HR plant leadership role in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong credibility as an HR resource for business leaders; comfortable challenging leaders to drive optimal outcomes.
  • Experience with workers’ compensation claims and cost control.
  • Experience with recognition and engagement programs and processes.
  • Project management experience, particularly in greenfield or high-growth environments.
  • Labor relations and contract negotiations experience (highly desirable).
  • PHR or SPHR certification (desirable).

Skills

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship-building and employee coaching skills.
  • Ability to practice and coach managers with a high level of confidentiality.
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), preferably SAP.
