About the Role
Manage the full employment life cycle of human resources functions including recruiting, employee relations, talent management, training, and benefits for one or more business units. This position is 100% in-person and requires regular on-site attendance in the Detroit office.
Responsibilities
- Promote company culture, values, and diversity and inclusion (D&I) activities across the company.
- Actively participate in anti-racism learning and advocate for equity, employee health, and wellbeing.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to local management and employees, providing guidance on HR and company policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal laws.
- Participate in defining goals and decisions for the regional HR department.
- Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures for continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Deliver an extraordinary employee experience by fostering a trusting environment where employees can openly engage with HR.
- Connect in-person with employees regularly and advocate for people-related needs and concerns to business unit leadership.
- Deliver timely performance feedback for the BU HR team and contribute to annual performance appraisals using talent management systems.
- Lead Talent Acquisition plans, including recruitment, onboarding, internal mobility, and associated processes in collaboration with Headquarters Talent Management.
- Oversee recruitment efforts to source and select applicants efficiently.
- Work with department heads and hiring managers to develop sourcing and recruitment strategies based on job duties and business requirements.
- Review job applications and perform preliminary screening of applicants and candidates.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program and a minimum of 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Professional in Human Resources® (HRCI PHR®) or Society of Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM CP®) certification preferred.
- Experience in construction or construction-related industries, or in a large-size (10,000+ employees) organization preferred.
- Good understanding of business and construction operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to challenge the status quo.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization.
- Self-starter with advanced human resources systems and project management skills.
- Experience engaging at the senior management level.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Familiarity with lean culture, continuous improvement principles, methods, and tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft suite of applications and human resources-related applications.
- Regular travel (20-30%).
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle objects/tools, reach with hands, talk, and hear.
- Frequently views a computer monitor and uses a keyboard.
- Requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly mobile and travels short and long distances via various conveyances.
- Occasionally performs work on-site at construction sites, office locations, or off-site venues.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Regularly works in an office or remote setting with quiet to moderate noise levels.
- May occasionally work at construction sites with exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise levels at construction sites may be moderate to loud.
- Required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
