HR Generalist
About the role
Data centers don’t run themselves — and neither does the team behind them. Vanguard is seeking an experienced, mission-driven HR Generalist to be the on-site people partner for our data center operations in Abilene, TX.
This mid-level role involves managing a broad spectrum of HR functions with a high degree of independence and accountability. Embedded directly within a mission-critical facility, you’ll serve as the primary HR resource for a skilled, field-based technical workforce — supporting everything from full-cycle recruitment and employee relations to compliance and performance management.
This isn’t a seat-filler role. You’ll operate with real independence, serving as a trusted partner to site managers and employees in a high-performance, 24/7 environment where precision, professionalism, and follow-through matter every day.
Key responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for technical and operational roles supporting data center operations — including job postings, resume screening, interviewing, offer negotiations, background checks, reference checks, and onboarding coordination.
- Aid in new hire orientation, paperwork completion, and introduction to site-specific policies and safety procedures.
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs including open enrollment, claims processing, vendor coordination, employee education on benefits options, health insurance, retirement plans, voluntary benefits, calculation of employee contributions, and processing enrollments and changes.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the on-site trusted resource for employees working in a demanding, mission-critical environment. Address concerns, grievances, and conflicts in a fair and confidential manner. Conduct investigations, mediate conflicts, document disciplinary actions, advise site managers on performance issues, and foster a culture of open communication, accountability, and collaboration.
Performance Management
- Support performance management cycles including goal setting, mid-year reviews, annual evaluations, feedback discussions, coaching, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and recognition programs. Provide guidance to site managers and employees throughout the process.
Training & Development
- Coordinate and deliver training and development programs tailored to the needs of a technical, field-based workforce. Assess training needs, source providers, organize sessions or workshops, track participation, and evaluate program effectiveness — including site-specific safety and compliance training.
HR Records Administration
- Manage HR administrative tasks including maintaining employee records, updating HR databases, processing employee changes (promotions, transfers, terminations), preparing HR-related reports, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Compliance & Policy Implementation
- Ensure site-level compliance with federal, state (Texas), and local employment laws and regulations (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC). Stay current on Texas-specific labor law, prepare for audits, maintain required documentation, and assist with the development and communication of HR policies — identifying and closing any compliance gaps in a regulated data center environment.
HR Metrics & Reporting
- Analyze HR metrics and trends (turnover, engagement scores, time-to-hire) specific to data center operations to identify opportunities for improvement and prepare reports for the VP of People Operations and site leadership.
Offboarding
- Assist with offboarding processes including exit interviews, final pay calculations, and knowledge transfer — ensuring continuity in a 24/7 operational environment.
