About the role
The HR Generalist supports core HR functions across both field and office teams in a fast-paced construction environment. The role provides day-to-day HR support, helps maintain compliance, and works closely with supervisors and project teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide broad HR support to employees, supervisors, and project teams, ensuring consistent, accurate, and responsive service across all HR functions.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues across jobsites and office locations.
- Conduct employee relations investigations and guide supervisors on corrective actions and documentation.
- Oversee new-hire vetting, onboarding, and compliance audits to ensure employees are jobsite-ready.
- Process personnel actions such as promotions, pay changes, job changes, and terminations.
- Recruit and hire qualified candidates for both skilled trades and administrative roles; partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, along with construction-specific requirements such as certifications and safety training records.
- Keep employee data accurate and up-to-date in Workday and other HR systems.
- Prepare recurring HR reports, including the monthly Zero Hours Report.
- Support additional HR projects and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- 4-5 years’ experience in an HR generalist, HR coordinator, or HR operations role; construction or similar industry experience is a plus.
- Experience in employment relations and coaching leadership.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with both field and office employees.
- A high attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow their HR capabilities.
- A team-oriented mindset and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Work knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance.
- HRIS experience; Workday familiarity preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources preferred.
- PHRO or SHRM certifications are preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
