About the role

The HR Generalist supports core HR functions across both field and office teams in a fast-paced construction environment. The role provides day-to-day HR support, helps maintain compliance, and works closely with supervisors and project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide broad HR support to employees, supervisors, and project teams, ensuring consistent, accurate, and responsive service across all HR functions.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues across jobsites and office locations.
  • Conduct employee relations investigations and guide supervisors on corrective actions and documentation.
  • Oversee new-hire vetting, onboarding, and compliance audits to ensure employees are jobsite-ready.
  • Process personnel actions such as promotions, pay changes, job changes, and terminations.
  • Recruit and hire qualified candidates for both skilled trades and administrative roles; partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, along with construction-specific requirements such as certifications and safety training records.
  • Keep employee data accurate and up-to-date in Workday and other HR systems.
  • Prepare recurring HR reports, including the monthly Zero Hours Report.
  • Support additional HR projects and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • 4-5 years’ experience in an HR generalist, HR coordinator, or HR operations role; construction or similar industry experience is a plus.
  • Experience in employment relations and coaching leadership.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with both field and office employees.
  • A high attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow their HR capabilities.
  • A team-oriented mindset and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Work knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance.
  • HRIS experience; Workday familiarity preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources preferred.
  • PHRO or SHRM certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
