HR Generalist

About the role

Metro Group Inc., a dynamic and growing metal recycling company, is seeking an exceptional HR Generalist. This role is ideal for someone energized by helping people, ensuring payroll accuracy, and creating a positive employee experience. As the HR Generalist, you will administer payroll and benefits while providing responsive, practical HR guidance to employees and leaders across the organization. This highly visible and trusted role directly impacts employee confidence, compliance, workplace culture, and the overall success of the team.

Responsibilities

• Payroll Administration: Process biweekly payroll through a third-party system, review time and payroll data, resolve discrepancies, maintain payroll records, reconcile payroll-related accounts, and respond to employee questions professionally.
• Benefits Administration: Support employees in understanding and using their benefits, including enrollments, qualifying life-event changes, and benefit questions. Maintain accurate records, coordinate with benefit providers, assist with annual enrollment, and resolve benefit issues from start to finish.
• Employee Support & HR Operations: Serve as an approachable point of contact for employees and managers, support onboarding and employee changes, answer policy and HR questions, and ensure a consistent, responsive, and respectful experience for all employees.
• Leave Management & Compliance: Review and track FMLA and other leave requests, maintain complete and confidential documentation, monitor important deadlines, and ensure payroll, benefits, and HR practices align with employment laws and company policies.
• Culture & Continuous Improvement: Partner with leadership teams to strengthen engagement, retention, and company culture, support company events and recognition efforts, identify opportunities to improve HR processes, and help create a family-oriented atmosphere.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of HR generalist, payroll, and benefits experience.
• Strong payroll administration and attention-to-detail skills.
• Working knowledge of employee benefits, FMLA, and employment law.
• High integrity, discretion, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment.
• Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across all levels of an organization.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with iSolved is a plus.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Location

Based out of the Metro Group main office at 3150 West 900 South in Salt Lake City, Utah.
