About the role

This is an unpaid internship designed to provide hands-on experience in human resources within the nonprofit sector. The intern will support day-to-day HR functions and gain exposure to the full employee lifecycle. This internship may qualify for academic credit — we encourage applicants to check with their institution.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Public Administration, or related field preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment activities including posting positions, screening applications, and coordinating interviews
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes for staff
  • Draft internal communications, HR documents, and policy summaries
  • Assist with planning employee engagement and recognition initiatives
  • Support benefits and payroll administration tasks under supervision
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and data entry
  • Assist with preparing materials for staff meetings and training
  • Handle confidential information with a high degree of professionalism and discretion
  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives across departments as needed

Schedule

15-20 hours per week | Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate class schedules.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift
  • Moves items up to 25 lbs
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching occasionally
