Alta Forest Products, in partnership with Itochu Building Products, is the world's largest producer of wood fence boards, specializing in Western Red Cedar and other premium species found in the Pacific and Inland Northwest forests. In addition to producing fence boards and pallet stock lumber, Alta's zero-wood-waste sawmills produce by-products such as wood chips, sawdust, mulch, and biofuel.

Position Summary

Altar Forest Products is seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented Temporary HR & Administrative Assistant to provide coverage during a long-term leave of absence. This full-time temporary position will support daily office operations, human resources administration, employee support, meeting coordination, and various clerical functions. The ideal candidate is professional, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining strict confidentiality. This role interacts with employees, visitors, vendors, and leadership and plays an important part in supporting the overall efficiency of the operation. This assignment is anticipated to run through October 2026.

Schedule & Compensation

Monday through Friday 8:00 – 4:30 (some flexibility with prior arrangement) $23.00 per hour

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet employees, visitors, and vendors and direct them appropriately.
  • Prepare, scan, file, and maintain documents and records.
  • Aid with correspondence, forms, reports, and other administrative documents.
  • Support purchasing and receiving functions through processing and scanning packing slips, log tickets, and related documentation.
  • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, sign-in sheets, handouts, meeting summaries, and action items.
  • Attend meetings and record accurate meeting minutes.
  • Track follow-up tasks and deadlines resulting from meetings.
  • Aid with onboarding activities including preparation of new hire paperwork and collection of required documents.
  • Maintain employee lists, directories, and training records.
  • Aid HR with clerical and administrative functions.
  • Aid with safety-related documentation, recordkeeping, and investigations as assigned.
  • Handle sensitive employee information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Support special projects, data cleanup efforts, spreadsheet maintenance, and process documentation.
  • Provide backup support to administrative staff during peak workloads or absences.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Accurate data entry skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain organized and error-free records.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with basic spreadsheet functions including data entry, sorting, and filtering.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, leadership, vendors, and visitors.
  • Ability to take organized meeting notes and communicate information clearly.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify issues requiring escalation to management.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of personnel and company information.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of administrative, office support, customer service, or related experience preferred.
  • Human Resources administrative experience highly desired.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of computers, keyboards, telephones, and office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and file documents as needed.

Benefits & Pay

This temporary position is not eligible for Alta Forest Products' regular full-time employee benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan contributions, or paid vacation. The position may be eligible for legally required benefits, including Washington Paid Sick Leave, in accordance with applicable law.
