About the role
The Shipping Department Lead supervises all shipping, receiving, warehousing, and material-handling operations at a Confluent Holdings operating company. You'll lead a team of dock personnel and forklift operators, select the most economical shipping methods that still hit the delivery date, manage carrier relationships, resolve lost or damaged shipments, and keep shipping records and training current.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all shipping and receiving operations and dock personnel, controlling the receipt, storage, and issuance of materials and finished goods.
- Ensure orders ship promptly and accurately, and keep shipping records and documentation clean.
- Oversee receiving of materials and finished goods, warehousing, and waste processing and recycling.
- Choose the best shipment method for economy and speed, and hold carriers accountable on pickups, service, and rates.
- Trace lost or delayed shipments, audit shipments, and initiate claims for loss or damage.
- Verify received materials against packing slips and resolve discrepancies with Purchasing.
- Train forklift operators and dock staff, and maintain training and daily forklift-inspection records.
- Hire, schedule, coach, and evaluate the dock team against company standards, goals, and values; partner with HR on corrective action.
- Support inventory accuracy at the dock, including cycle counts and physical inventory.
- Enforce safety standards and safe material-handling practices, and keep a clean, organized, compliant dock and warehouse.
- Perform hands-on shipping and receiving work as volume requires.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's degree or coursework in logistics, supply chain, or business is a plus.
- Experience in shipping and receiving operations, including front-line supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of shipping procedures, carriers, and requirements.
- Proficiency with shipping, ERP, and inventory systems.
- Strong planning, organization, communication, and leadership skills, with sharp attention to detail and a knack for improving how work gets done.
- Forklift license / certification required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug test.
- Valid driver's license preferred where the role includes deliveries.
Qualifications
