Lead Shipping Clerk

Position Summary

The Lead Shipping Clerk is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily outbound shipping operations within a fast-paced warehouse environment near the DFW Airport. This role leads the shipping team to ensure orders are accurately picked, packed, labeled, documented, and shipped according to customer requirements and carrier specifications. The Lead Shipping Clerk serves as the primary point of contact for shipping operations, helping to maintain productivity, quality, safety, and on-time performance while supporting continuous process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, and support the daily activities of the shipping team to ensure efficient workflow and timely order fulfillment.
• Process and prepare outbound shipments, including picking, packing, labeling, and shipping documentation.
• Verify shipment accuracy against customer orders, packing lists, and shipping requirements.
• Assign daily work priorities and monitor team performance to meet shipping deadlines.
• Train, mentor, and provide guidance to Shipping Clerks on procedures, quality standards, and safety practices.
• Schedule and coordinate shipments with carriers, including air cargo and ground transportation providers.
• Ensure all shipments are dispatched on time and in compliance with customer specifications, carrier requirements, and company standards.
• Generate bills of lading, shipping labels, export documentation (when applicable), and other required shipping documents.
• Maintain accurate records within Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and shipping software.
• Communicate with warehouse personnel, customer service teams, transportation providers, and supervisors regarding shipment status, priorities, and delivery schedules.
• Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, delays, damages, and missing shipments while escalating issues as needed.
• Perform routine audits of shipments and documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Assist with inventory control activities, cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
• Monitor shipping supplies and notify management when replenishment is needed.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and customer-specific requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve shipping accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
• Assist supervisors and managers with reporting, KPI tracking, and operational planning as needed.
• Serve as the shipping department lead in the absence of the Shipping Supervisor or Warehouse Supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of shipping, warehouse, logistics, or distribution experience required.
• Previous experience leading, training, or coordinating a warehouse team preferred.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in a high-volume warehouse or logistics environment preferred.
• Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and shipping software.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Excel.
• Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification is preferred.
