About the role
The Housing Manager oversees corporate and employee housing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They lead a team, develop policies, and manage projects related to housing programs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee corporate and employee housing and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and other stakeholders.
- Lead, inspire, and support a team of direct reports, providing clear direction, coaching, and daily oversight.
- Create and execute marketing and outreach strategies to drive high occupancy and enhance the resident experience.
- Partner with property operations teams to resolve resident concerns with empathy, urgency, and professionalism.
- Develop and refine policies and procedures that promote consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
- Maintain systems, data, and reporting tools to ensure accuracy, currentness, and audit-readiness.
- Identify areas of risk or opportunity and escalate trends with clear recommendations.
- Support ongoing departmental initiatives and assist with ad hoc projects as needed.
- Lead training and development efforts to grow team capability and support long-term talent development.

Requirements
- 5+ years of experience managing a team, including full-cycle people leadership (hiring, staffing, development, performance management, corrective actions, and terminations).
- Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort working with data, analytics, and reporting.
- Experience with Yardi and Power BI strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to shifting deadlines and business needs.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday with in-person office requirements.
- No travel required; work is primarily office-based.

- Proven ability to mentor and coach team members while modeling Essex values and leadership behaviors.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-level executive reports, operational documentation, and polished correspondence.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, resolve sensitive issues, and present complex topics to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills grounded in a strong understanding of company policies, procedures, and business objectives, with accountability for meeting deadlines and achieving results.
Benefits
- Competitive salaries with a range of $94,000.00 - $117,000.00 per year.
- Eligible for a housing discount of 20%.

- Eligible for a discretionary Annual Bonus program commensurate with the level of the position.
Pay
New hires generally start between $94,000.00 - $117,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.
Schedule
This role is available onsite Monday-Friday at our Irvine office or Rexford office in Fremont.
