About the Role
Join Orange County’s largest nonprofit developer of high-quality affordable housing and services in our mission to transform lives and strengthen communities for thousands of families, seniors, veterans, transitional age youth, and individuals coming from homelessness in California. In this role, you will work closely with individuals who are currently experiencing or transitioning from homelessness, often facing significant challenges such as difficulties adhering to societal norms related to hygiene, personal space, and polite conversation. We seek team members who can set boundaries with clients while fostering a supportive environment that promotes dignity, trust, and understanding.
Responsibilities
- Provide supportive services to address issues and barriers that negatively impact progress toward goals.
- Maintain tenant rosters showing entry-exits for relevant Jamboree properties.
- Monitor for warning signs of de-compensation and crisis, and respond accordingly.
- Handle record keeping, documenting, and reporting as needed.
- Document resident participation in services and track progress of resident goals.
- Complete monthly newsletters describing available social and supportive services on-site and off-site, including a calendar of events.
- Maintain information on off-site services and programs and provide referrals when appropriate.
- Provide advocacy, onsite case management services, and linkage to residents as needed.
- Complete intake assessment and orientation with new residents.
- Maintain effective relations and coordinate services between community supports, service providers, and property management.
- Promote a positive atmosphere for residents and encourage community engagement.
- Facilitate daily Adult Education groups/workshops onsite for residents.
- Plan and coordinate Health and Wellness events and community-building activities yearly.
- Input data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) accurately and on a timely basis.
- Provide onsite life skills training and reinforcement to residents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Over 18 years of age.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness and mental health challenges.
- Familiarity with the Housing First, Harm Reduction, and/or Recovery-Oriented service models.
- Ability to maintain relationships with consumers/members while maintaining appropriate boundaries as a staff member.
- Ability to interact in a culturally diverse community.
- AA degree preferred; or equivalent experience serving homeless individuals.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team setting and independently.
- Knowledge of independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, housekeeping, and being a good neighbor.
- Valid California driver’s license and availability of an insured vehicle.
- Job includes some evening and weekend hours and travel throughout California.
Physical Demands
- Required to talk and hear.
- Often required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
- Must stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, twist, lean, move from one location to another, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Vision abilities include close and far vision.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard and lift files and reports.
- Exposure to glare from a computer.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs and travel by automobile 10%.
Work Environment
- Work with the homeless population in various settings, including streets, shelters, or other places of habitation or services.
- Exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, and unclean environments due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty.
- Some work will be in a recreational room or common area.
- The noise level is usually moderate but varies depending on the activity.

$23/hour + Benefits
