Responsibilities

  • Comply with regulatory agencies requirements (e.g., JCAHO, DOH, OSHA, EOC).
  • Conduct daily rounds with unit personnel to maintain cleanliness, perform unit and room audits, and initiate corrective action.
  • Coordinate workflow with shift managers on day, evening, and night shifts to ensure effective and efficient work performance.
  • Hire and assign staff.
  • Utilize software programs to assign tasks, maintain facility cleanliness, enhance patient flow monitoring, and reduce response, clean, and turnaround time in patient rooms.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Hard Floor Surface Program across all shifts.
  • Supervise and administer a systematic cleaning and care program for assigned building areas or the entire facility in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Plan and schedule staff assignments and cleaning services; reassign staff to ensure work completion and full utilization; handle emergency cleaning and maintenance projects.
  • Inform staff of custodial and related policies and directives through meetings and memoranda.
  • Evaluate and recommend equipment, changes in cleaning methods, and work performance standards to improve efficiency.
  • Prepare a portion or the entire annual budget for equipment, supplies, and personnel for the custodial operation.
  • Supervise the custodial program inventory system, including requisitioning, distribution, and control of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Inspect and audit buildings and assigned areas for compliance with cleaning guidelines; investigate complaints and take corrective action.
  • Prepare or review periodic reports (e.g., work activity, cost reports, staff utilization) and advise management on custodial operations.
  • Perform supervisory duties, including interviewing, selecting, and training staff; resolving personnel issues; evaluating performance; approving leave; and recommending retention or termination.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and five years of experience in Custodial Service operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of operations, software, and quality programs that improve Service Quality and HCAHPS scores.
  • Experience maintaining a major healthcare facility.
  • In lieu of an Associate’s degree, seven years of progressive Custodial Service Management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in Custodial Service Operational Software Programs.

This position may require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair. It may also be designated as "essential," requiring employees to remain at work or report during institutional emergencies to protect and continue operations.

Prior to the start date, the selected candidate must:

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
  • Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Pay

The anticipated pay range for this position is $xxx - $xxx per year. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Additional compensation may include:

  • Location pay for full-time positions ($4,000).
  • Night shift differential.
  • Evening shift differential.
  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575).
  • Geographic pay.

Total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
