About the role

The House Manager is responsible for supporting the operations and patient care services of the organization. They utilize effective leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions. They provide immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments and coordinate hospital-wide activities as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the operations and patient care services of the organization.
  • Utilizes effective leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Provides immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments.
  • Coordinates hospital-wide activities as necessary to resolve problem situations as they arise and often in the absence of unit leaders.
  • Works independently as well as with others.
  • Ensures appropriate placement of available staff.
  • Communicates with Bronson First to coordinate all regional transfers.
  • Collaborates with ER physicians and ER charge nurse when hospital is at capacity.
  • Manages through-put to avoid delays in patient placement.
  • Coordinates placement of all admissions and transfers.
  • Communicates with outside organizations or their representatives, including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and the media.
  • Notifies incident commander.
  • Communicates with outside organizations or their representatives, including information regarding bed availability.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy.
  • Ensures appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion for abuse exists.
  • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hot Line after hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Provides initial triage and directs employee to ER as appropriate.
  • Documents all calls on the Employee Injury & Illness Incident Report.
  • Collaborates with ER physician to initiate prophylactic treatment of employees in the event of exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Identifies bed bugs in conjunction with EVS manager or designee.
  • Coordinates notification of EVS management, facilities and Griffin Pest Control.
  • Ensures room is properly sealed post discharge.
  • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units.
  • Makes sure unit activity, level of patient care and assists with problem resolution.
  • Acts as mentor to staff and advocate to patients.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care.
  • Provides direction during shortages.
  • Provides direction during computer and monitoring downtime.

Requirements

  • A BSN in required upon hire for this position.
  • Any employee hired before this date is required to have an active nursing license and 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in the hospital or elsewhere.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the state of Michigan.
  • Bronson South Haven Hospital: BCLS required upon hire. Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire. Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa and IS-700.a, and NIH Stroke certification to be completed within 6 months of hire.
  • Bronson Battle Creek: Part of the stroke team and ensures proper mixing and dosing of TPA.
  • Overall knowledge of disaster planning and certification in IS courses highly preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment associated with the delivery patient care on the floors.
  • Ability to work as a team member and be able to communicate effectively with visitors, physicians, hospital personnel, and administrative staff; such dealings may often require the use of significant tact in order to handle sensitive matters.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the Department.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others.
