Horizontal Directional Driller - Fiber Construction

About the role

Join the Horizontal Directional Drilling Team to support the construction and maintenance of advanced PON/fiber networks. This full‑time, year‑round position involves operating horizontal directional drills, installing fiber infrastructure, supporting fiber splicing and repairs, and handling construction equipment like trenchers and excavators. You will climb poles, set infrastructure components, and ensure accurate labeling and site restoration. The role emphasizes outdoor, hands‑on work in various weather conditions, often in high‑risk environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drills and locate for the drill.
• Support installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fiber facilities.
• Support outside plant construction, including installing vaults, pedestals, and aerial/buried fiber lines.
• Operate construction equipment and climb structures as needed.
• Maintain site safety, keep detailed project labels, and support landscape restoration.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months' experience in related fields or relevant certification/military service.
• Valid driver’s license with DOT eligibility; ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Physical ability to climb, kneel, dig, lift, and operate manual and heavy equipment.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to safety, and ability to work outdoors in diverse conditions.
• Preferred experience with horizontal directional drilling and telecommunication basics.
