Job Summary

The HIV Nurse Practitioner (NP) and HIV Physician Assistant (PA) provide direction to the organization with respect to HIV medical care. In addition to serving as the primary clinical consultant in HIV care, this provider keeps staff clinicians abreast of developments in HIV medicine and actively pursues opportunities to further develop and improve the HIV care that CBHS provides. This provider for HIV Clinical Care collaborates closely with the Lead Physician for HIV Care to provide unified leadership in Infectious Disease. This position represents CBHS to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV Medicine.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides direction to the organization with respect to HIV issues
  • Functions as CBHS’ primary clinical consultant in HIV
  • Collaborates with Pharmacy staff in maximizing an HIV formulary and assisting the pharmacy in seeking inclusions of HIV agents in MCO formularies as they become FDA approved
  • Keeps CBHS clinical staff aware of updates to HIV guidelines and new research findings through regular presentations at staff meetings
  • Ensures that medical staff and other interested/involved departments (nursing, CMOD) are aware of current clinical trials and enrollment criteria
  • Represents CBHS to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in HIV medicine
  • Reads and responds to e-mail in a timely manner
  • Answers phone calls/pages within 30 minutes
  • Responds promptly to queries from sponsors about specific cases
  • Participates in internal committees and teams as requested
  • Applies the Care Model to patient care
  • Maintains the standard of clinical care, using diagnostic testing appropriately yet cost-effectively, and providing appropriate treatment
  • Affirms barriers and assets in a patient’s social environment that are likely to affect health outcomes
  • Reviews research patients’ labs within 2 working days of receipt and takes appropriate action if abnormal
  • Effectively engages patients in their care
  • Makes sure that patient calls are returned (by self or other staff) within 2 working days
  • Adds addresses patient concerns brought up during visit, and documents assessment and plan for these concerns
  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of patient care
  • Maintains complete, legible, and comprehensive documentation
  • Utilizes EMR resources to manage patient care, flags, protocols, referrals
  • Completes progress notes of patient encounters by end of next business day
  • Consistently removes inactive medications from patient’s med lists
  • Consistently removes inactive problems from patient’s problem lists
  • Completes paperwork and billing in a timely and complete manner
  • Completes clinic billing and coding documentation in a complete and accurate manner
  • Shows meaningful progress toward their quality improvement goals
  • Interacts with the nurse or provider on call in an approachable manner

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Computer skills including Microsoft office suite, electronic medical records and practice management system

Education And/Or Experience

  • NP with completion of a one-year residency training program with focus on HIV Care, and training in a combination of internal medicine, family practice and experience working with HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases.
  • Or, PA with at least 3 years of experience working in HIV care.
  • Desired: AAHIVM certification.
  • Required: Minimum 1-year experience in treating people living with HIV/AIDS in a ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  • Desired: Experience working in a non-profit healthcare environment
  • Current Maryland License to practice medicine
  • Federal DEA license
