About the Role
This series provides and preserves a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive.
Pay
- Highway Operations Worker: $18.19/hr ($37,838/yr) – Grade 14
- Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr – Grade 17
- Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr – Grade 18
- Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr ($50,848/yr) – Grade 19
Responsibilities
- Operation of motorized vehicles and equipment
- Pavement care and preservation
- Landscape care and preservation
- Roadside shoulder restoration and repairs
- Signing and striping of roadways
- Delivery of equipment and materials
- Environmental compliance
- Vehicle and equipment care
- Scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates' work (Tech 2 & 3)
- Inspecting work, training, and guiding staff (Tech 2 & 3)
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license; must maintain acceptable driving records and complete required training
- For Highway Operations Worker: Obtain Arizona CDL (Class “A”) permit within 90 days and full CDL within 6 months of hire
- For Highway Operations Tech 1-3: Arizona Class “A” CDL with (N) tanker endorsement required prior to start date; additional endorsements may be required based on assignment
- Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
- Ability to respond to emergency call-outs (24/7) and arrive at the maintenance yard within 30 minutes
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, rugged terrain, and high-speed traffic conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- May require licensing through the State Board of Pesticide Control to dispense herbicides/pesticides
- Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
Qualifications
- Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of roadway/highway experience (e.g., operating motorized vehicles/heavy-duty equipment, signing/striping, pavement care, landscape preservation, tunnel maintenance)
- Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of roadway/highway experience
- Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of roadway/highway experience
- Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of roadway/highway experience
