About the Role

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, as well as being courteous, considerate, and prompt in dealing with and serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive.

Pay

Annual Salary: $37,838 - $50,848

  • Highway Operations Worker (Grade 14): $18.19/hr
  • Highway Operations Tech 1 (Grade 17): $20.46/hr
  • Highway Operations Tech 2 (Grade 18): $22.45/hr
  • Highway Operations Tech 3 (Grade 19): $24.44/hr

Responsibilities

  • Operation of motorized vehicles and equipment
  • Pavement care and preservation
  • Landscape care and preservation
  • Roadside shoulder restoration and repairs
  • Signing and striping of roadways
  • Delivery of equipment and materials
  • Environmental compliance
  • Vehicle and equipment care
  • Scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates' work (Tech 2 & 3)
  • Inspecting work, training, and guiding staff (Tech 2 & 3)
  • Responding to emergency call-outs (24/7) and arriving at the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license (required for all positions)
  • Highway Operations Worker:
    • Arizona CDL (Class “A”) permit within 90 days of hire
    • Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of hire
  • Highway Operations Tech 1-3:
    • Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for manual or automatic transmission with (N) tanker endorsement prior to start date
    • Additional endorsements may be required based on assignment
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
  • May require licensing through the State Board of Pesticide Control to dispense herbicides/pesticides
  • Must be able to work in extremes of cold and heat, rugged terrain, and high-speed traffic conditions
  • Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

Qualifications

  • Highway Operations Worker:
    • 6 months of roadway/highway job-related experience (e.g., operating motorized vehicles/heavy-duty equipment, signing/striping, pavement care, landscape preservation, tunnel maintenance)
    • Preference for 6 months of experience in related fields
  • Highway Operations Tech 1:
    • 1 year of job-related roadway/highway experience
  • Highway Operations Tech 2:
    • 2 years of job-related roadway/highway experience
  • Highway Operations Tech 3:
    • 3 years of job-related roadway/highway experience
