Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician/Mechanic

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Yellow Iron) reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. This role involves performing complex preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of operational equipment including trucks and yellow iron.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on a range of equipment such as bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, yards trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company cars.
• Diagnoses and repairs differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems.
• Completes records such as work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples.
• Serves and maintains other equipment like light plants, water pumps, welders, and other equipment.
• Performs tasks according to preventative maintenance checklists.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3 years' experience in maintenance & repair of diesel heavy equipment (yellow iron).
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Trade School Certification.
• Ability to troubleshoot and identify electrical/mechanical issues and complete them safely and in compliance with company safety and quality standards.
• Ability to read and comprehend service manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, etc.
• Computer diagnostic skills.
• CDL Class A / B with air brake endorsement.
• Acceptable Driving Record.
• Personal tools.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Qualifications

• Bilingual English / Spanish (preferred).
• Welder Certification - Full fabrication knowledge (Mig/Tig/Arc/Oxy Acetylene/brazing etc.) (preferred).
• CNG / LNG alternative fuel training (preferred).
• Knowledge of MS Office & Outlook (preferred).
