Health Visitor (Band 7)

Location: Ullapool and Gairloch, Highland Health & Social Care

Full-time – 36 hours per week, Fixed Term (12 months)

About the role

We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated, qualified Health Visitor to join the Inverness Health Visiting team. If we cannot recruit a qualified health visitor, a trainee health visitor position will be considered. You will work for The Highland Council with Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

Evidence demonstrates the importance of prevention, early identification, and intervention throughout the early years of life. Health Visitors have a significant public health role in relation to individuals, families, and communities by providing critical support to all children under five years of age. You will identify health needs as early as possible and improve health and wellbeing by promoting health, preventing ill health, and reducing inequalities.

You will visit families in their own homes and provide health advice and support to empower parents to care for their children. Your health visiting practice will be based on the Universal Health Visiting Pathway underpinned by GIRFEC and the National Practice Model. Although your focus will be on young children, you will build solid bonds with the whole family. As a caseload holder, you will engage with families to discover and build on their strengths, understand their concerns and health needs, and address them in a safe and supportive manner.

You will work as an autonomous practitioner with families, young children, and vulnerable individuals, requiring you to be approachable, friendly, and possess excellent communication skills. The role may involve difficult cases, so resilience and the ability to manage stress and challenges are essential. Strong time management and organisational skills are also required.

• Work autonomously with families, young children, and vulnerable individuals.
• Manage a caseload effectively with strong organisational skills.

Requirements

• Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalent.
• Post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing.
• Registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.

Qualifications & Knowledge

• Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or
• Demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through completion of NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking.

Pay

£52,769 - £61,377 per annum
