About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Visitor based at North Ayr Health Centre. This post is offered on a permanent basis for 22.30 hours per week. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high-quality, culturally sensitive, safe, person-centred, and effective health visiting service to infants, children, and their families.
• Demonstrate high-level communication skills and collaborate effectively with partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes for whole family wellbeing.
• Function as an independent, autonomous practitioner reflecting the SCPHN (Specialist Community Public Health Nursing) standards.
• Apply in-depth knowledge, expertise, and experience in health visiting, GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every Child) principles, and UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child).
• Assess and identify health needs using the National Practice Model Framework.
• Manage your caseload responsibly and accountably, ensuring assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the universal health visiting pathway and additional programmes of care.
• Provide highly specialised advice, assess child development, and support parents using Solihull approaches.
• Support parents where there are vulnerabilities and concerns relating to child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, and perinatal mental ill health.
• Adopt a flexible, strengths-based approach, be innovative, and commit to delivering high-quality care while responding positively to change.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) Specialist Public Health Nursing (SCPHN Health Visiting) qualification.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Experience in caseload management and child protection supervision.
• Strong leadership skills, self-direction, and confidence in providing specialised advice.
• Experience supporting parents with vulnerabilities, including child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, and perinatal mental ill health.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran may offer visa sponsorship for eligible roles if the post meets the minimum salary threshold and other criteria. Sponsorship is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed. Note that the advertised salary is based on a full-time contract and must be pro-rated for part-time positions. Band 2 posts or bank contracts are not eligible for sponsorship.
