About the role
This is a para-professional healthcare support position responsible for serving clients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in accordance with State and Federal regulations (DHM 150-24). The incumbent is at risk for exposure to blood-borne and airborne pathogens and will be immunized in accordance with DOH Immunization Recommendations for Health Care Workers. An annual assessment for TB, which may include a tuberculin skin test, is required. This position reports to the Clerical Supervisor-SES and is based in the Immokalee clinic, with occasional travel to the Naples clinic as needed.

Responsibilities
- Performs client eligibility process for income, address, physical presence, and identification.
- Performs anthropometric measurements (height, weight, length) and hemoglobin testing as required for client eligibility determination.
- Issues program benefits (food package) and client ID/VOC cards.
- Assists with completion of client nutrition questionnaire and documents responses in the FL-WiSE data system.
- Schedules client appointments in the FL-WiSE data system.
- Provides second nutrition education contacts for low-risk WIC participants based on newsletter and lesson plan.
- Provides voter registration services in compliance with WIC guidelines.
- Assists with maintenance inventories as assigned, including DVDs, books, and/or OCO equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ensures WIC data sets security.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Florida Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Completion of the Florida Nutrition Training Guide is required.
- Bilingual in English and any other language required.
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties, including responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Skills
- Competent keyboard skills.
- Ability to learn FL-WiSE computer system, Department of Health software applications, and use a calculator.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and interact professionally and effectively with clients, the public, and other DOH staff.
