Health, Safety, and Environment Intern – Elwood, Kansas (Summer 2027)

About the role
As a Summer 2027 Health, Safety, and Environment Intern, you will join the Health, Safety, and Environment team at our Elwood, Kansas manufacturing plant. You will contribute to a hands-on project focused on strengthening safety culture, supporting injury prevention, and advancing environmental initiatives. Through day-to-day safety support and coaching, you will help design, implement, and execute initiatives that support our vision of an injury-free workplace.
Responsibilities
- Understand the safety and environmental considerations in the pharmaceutical industry
- Work within cross-functional teams to implement a project that improves safety by Hazard Assessment & Control
- Support day-to-day safety initiatives and activities that promote a strong safety culture and injury prevention
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Safety Management, or other related engineering fields, with a focus on Industrial Hygiene
- Effective communication across all levels of the organization
- Cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong business and personal integrity
- Ability to build trust and mutual respect
Qualifications
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene principles, regulatory requirements, and workplace safety practices
- Ability to assess workplace exposures and apply sound judgment when identifying potential health and safety risks
- Experience or interest in environmental, air quality, noise, or other workplace monitoring practices
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to address workplace hazards and support positive change
Additional Information
Travel: 10% to corporate facility in Indianapolis, IN for opening/closing.
Location: Elanco Elwood Manufacturing site, KS.
