About the role

The Health Educator facilitates evidence-based curriculum with fidelity to youth ages 10–21, promoting safe sexual behaviors and reducing STD/STI risk and adolescent pregnancy. They also serve as a community resource, connecting individuals to family planning, medical clinics, STI/STD testing, and other sexual-health services.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate selected evidence-based curriculum with fidelity to youth ages 10–21 in group settings, encouraging abstinence or risk-averse sexual behavior to reduce STI/STD infection and pregnancy rates.
  • Complete mandatory training in curriculum delivery and implementation provided by ACT4Youth before facilitating sessions.
  • Participate in additional trainings from ACT4Youth, NYF, or other organizations to strengthen teaching skills.
  • Collect and report data, including demographics, pre/post surveys, and attendance, entering it accurately into ACT4Youth (ORS) and NYF (Evolv) databases.
  • Conduct community outreach and education through workshops, lectures, and events like health fairs and awareness initiatives.
  • Promote sexual health and wellness while serving as a resource for participants, caregivers, and the community to access sexual health/family planning services, medical care, or other support.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of human sexuality, adolescent development, gender identity, and contraceptive use in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
  • Provide referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning, health services, or other essential support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education or a social science/health-related field.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions and teach classes on reproductive health topics (e.g., anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs, HIV/AIDS) in diverse settings.
  • Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing.
  • Ability to travel throughout NYC via public transportation, particularly in the South Bronx and Upper Manhattan.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with youth in child welfare programs.
  • Availability outside standard 9am–5pm hours, including afterschool, evenings, and weekends, to meet population needs.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills strongly encouraged but not required.

Pay

$54,105.90 – $57,905.90 per year.
