Health Educator

Work Location: Elevate Office (location to be determined). Primary service area: Waukesha.

About the role

The Health Educator is a member of a team that facilitates a combination of the following programs: Too Good For Drugs, Peers 4 Peers, and Elevate Communities Project. This position works in high schools and with other community organizations to deliver substance-abuse prevention services using evidence-based strategies. Responsibilities include educating youth and community members to make healthier decisions related to high-risk behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation and expansion of the Too Good For Drugs curriculum or other appropriate curricula with applicable high schools.
• Coordinate and support the implementation of the Peers 4 Peers program at the high school level.
• Serve as a member of the Prime for Life instructional team and teach Prime for Life in both virtual and onsite settings.
• Represent Elevate at health fairs and awareness events, including promoting the Hidden in Plain Sight, Escape the Vape, and other learning experiences (events may include occasional evenings and weekends).
• Assist with expanding other targeted programming into new service areas.
• Aid in collecting, maintaining, and analyzing data for evaluation, fund development, and marketing purposes.
• Support other Youth Services programming by implementing prevention education at the middle and high school levels.
• Assist with implementing special initiatives, including advocacy, parent education, and social marketing campaigns in the community and other coalition activities.
• Expand research-based ATODA programs in schools and communities served.
• Participate in agency staff, committee, or program meetings and attend all designated agency functions.
• Ensure thorough documentation and accurate, timely data entry into the agency’s electronic data capture system.
• Provide leadership and/or support in implementing alcohol and drug-free social or community service activities.
• Support other Youth Services programs as needed.
• Assist in identifying public policy initiatives to advance the mission.
• Assist in implementing other environmental strategies in the community.
• Prepare program activity reports for evaluation, fund development, and marketing purposes.
• Participate in agency events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field (preferred).
• Experience organizing, training, and supporting adults and youth to engage in public action.
• Knowledge of outcome-based evaluation, prevention theory, substance use, and mental health.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Public speaking and presentation skills.
• Relationship-building skills and experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications.
• Ability to demonstrate cultural humility.
• Ability to collaborate and work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, initiative, and a commitment to Elevate’s mission.
• Pre-employment criminal background check, employment background check, driver’s license check, and drug screening required.
• Must have a reliable vehicle and valid vehicle insurance.
• Must be willing to complete training in the administration of Naloxone within the first six months of hire and be willing to administer Naloxone in the case of a suspected opioid overdose.

Travel and Other Requirements

• Travel throughout counties served by Elevate, Inc. (primarily Waukesha County).
• Work in public school settings, which may require occasional early morning starts to accommodate school schedules.
• Serve community events, which may occasionally require working weekend and evening hours.
• Perform in a professional and personable manner, maintaining respect and consideration for clients, visitors, and fellow employees, and upholding strict client confidentiality.

Pay

$18–$19 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, hourly/non-exempt, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (flexibility required).
