Health Education Coordinator

Location: Cheney    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt    Schedule: M–F 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends

About the role

Reporting to the Director for Wellness Services in Counseling and Wellness Services, the Health Education Coordinator provides consultative services, information, and education on health promotion to EWU students, parents, specialized student and campus groups, and other constituents. The position engages in health education, promotion, and programming on topics such as sexual assault prevention, STI prevention, hazing prevention, mental health promotion, alcohol and other drugs, addiction recovery, healthy relationships, stress management techniques, and sleep. The role uses research-based approaches and strategies to facilitate behavior change among the student population and supervises peer health advisors, student employees, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Provide Health Education and Programming (60%)
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, resources, and services based on campus needs and priorities.
  • Develop learning outcomes and identify and collect evaluation metrics for health promotion and education activities.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to contribute to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students.
  • Research best practices, issues, and model programs related to target areas.
  • Implement research-based approaches and strategies to promote behavior change among the student population.
  • Deliver presentations (in person and online) as part of campus activities, both independently and in collaboration with peer health educators, campus partners, and departments.
• Supervise Student Volunteers, Interns, and Other Student-Based Assistance (30%)
  • Recruit student employees and volunteers.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and supervision for student staff.
  • Assist student employees in identifying and achieving applied learning goals related to their course of study.
  • Oversee the peer health education team.
  • Contribute to social media platforms and oversee student design of social media content.
• Perform Administrative and Liaison Duties (10%)
  • Record and report statistical data as required or requested, including collecting and disseminating surveys and survey information.
  • Attend staff meetings and engage in professional development activities.
  • Establish relationships and act as a liaison with on- and off-campus resources, such as community service agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of community and campus resources and refer students to appropriate campus or community resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, or a related field.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience developing, coordinating, and evaluating evidence-informed health education programs and resources tailored to the diverse needs of adult learners on a college campus.
• Proficiency in public speaking, including giving presentations to small and large groups.
• Previous involvement in peer education, student leadership, or mentoring programs.
• Knowledge or expertise in one or more target areas such as sexual assault prevention, STI prevention, substance use and recovery, hazing prevention, or mental health promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, or a related field.
• Involvement with community coalitions or other groups focusing on health and wellness.
• Previous work experience in health education, wellness promotion, public health, or in a prevention specialist capacity.
• Experience working in a college or university setting.

Pay

$48,523.00 (minimum) up to $56,000.00 annually. Placement within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
