Health Care Assistant Certified - 5NE Medical Unit - FT - 1st Shift
About the role
Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, the HCA assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels, and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit.
- Assist staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
- Perform patient care activities such as vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge.
- Assist with clerical support including directing incoming calls, responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
Qualifications
- Education: High School/GED required. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications and Registrations: Basic Life Support (BCLS) is required by the conclusion of orientation.
- Experience: Previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.
- Additional Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
