H V A C Technician I
Hiring Department: Facilities Management | Reports To: HVAC Supervisor | Location: El Paso, Texas
Full-time, non-exempt position. Schedule: 40 hours per week, standard Monday–Friday 7:00 am–3:30 pm with flexibility required for evenings and weekends. On-call availability and overtime may be required.
About the Role
Inspects, tests, adjusts, and balances heating, ventilating, and cooling systems. Performs maintenance of HVAC systems, upgrades to buildings, and maintenance and repair to equipment, tools, buildings, and offices. Performs special projects such as panel installation. Ensures institutional facilities are clean and performs general custodial/maintenance functions daily, including sweeping, removing discarded debris, and recycling.
Responsibilities
- Installs, repairs, and replaces HVAC components, electrical apparatuses, and other fixtures.
- Installs and maintains pipe systems and performs plumbing repairs.
- Services equipment, changes motors, pumps, and/or V-belts.
- Maintains maintenance records and work orders for repairs, replacements, and installations.
- Accounts for time, material, and direct expenses connected with preventive maintenance.
- Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat; checks bearings, motors, filters, seals, pneumatic lines, diaphragms, air valves, water pumps, gaskets, boilers, coils, gauges, compressors, and tubing; tightens seals and leaky fittings.
- Repacks heating and cooling valves; replaces pipe insulation; welds or solders copper pipes for expansion tanks.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Complies with all State and University policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Trade School (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) or High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid, state-issued driver’s license.

Pay
$31,805 annually.
