Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and state/local regulations, including incident reporting and recordkeeping
- Maintain and continuously improve health & safety policies, procedures, and programs
- Act as a key point of contact for safety inspections and audits, supporting preparation and follow-up
Incident Prevention & Risk Management
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions
- Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard analyses across both sites
- Analyze safety trends and data to identify opportunities and drive proactive risk reduction strategies
- Track and report on safety KPIs (leading and lagging indicators)
Training, Engagement & Safety Culture
- Deliver new hire safety orientation and ongoing training programs for employees and leaders
- Champion a people-first, safety-first culture through visible floor presence and engagement
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committees
- Encourage employee involvement in hazard identification and continuous improvement initiatives
Operational Partnership
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and HR to embed safety into daily work processes
- Support contractor safety programs, including onboarding, compliance, and monitoring
- Participate in capital projects and equipment changes to ensure safety requirements are built in
- Manage and oversee PPE programs, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Maintain and coordinate emergency response plans and drills (fire, evacuation, etc.)
- Support site readiness for incident response and crisis management
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support incident response as needed
Work Environment & Structure
- Multi-site role: Schenectady (70%) and Mechanicville (30%) – approximately 20 minutes apart
- Standard Monday–Friday schedule with onsite presence required
- Reports to Regional Health & Safety Manager with strong partnership with site leadership
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing or industrial environments, equivalent combination of education and experience considered
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel daily between sites
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong alignment with leadership
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
- Technical Skills: Experience with safety programs, audits, investigations, and compliance systems, proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, reporting, tracking), experience with systems such as SAP, Power BI, or safety tracking tools (e.g., Conformit) is an asset
- Leadership & Soft Skills: Strong communicator with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels, highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives independently, collaborative, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset, passionate about building relationships and developing a proactive safety culture
