Serves as a Government Affairs Intern, providing entry‑level administrative and office support for the Texas Department of Transportation’s Government Affairs Division, including assistance with legislative policy, special projects, and coordination of meetings and correspondence.
Essential Duties
- Assist in the development, execution, and completion of a wide spectrum of special projects, including legislative educational resources.
- Assist Government Affairs Division staff with speeches, policy research, internal and external meeting coordination and execution, and correspondence.
- Maintain confidential information and records.
- Perform inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain files, records, and logs.
- Make copies and distribute as instructed.
- Conduct preliminary research on assignments and gather pertinent data.
- Perform routine word‑processing duties and conduct quality checks of documents created.
- Run errands as required.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution, or accepted into a college, university, or other educational institution.
- Other Conditions: Must be at least 16 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education, including trade/vocational schools. Employees 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lb at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
- Sitting – prolonged periods of time.
- Repetitive motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close visual acuity – work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
