About the role

Goodwill of Southwestern PA is seeking volunteers to assist instructors in the adult learning classroom at the Lawrenceville location (Goodwill Robert S. Foltz Building, 118 52nd Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Volunteers will help support adult education programs and work with adult English Language Learners.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors in the Lawrenceville classroom.
• Support adult students in achieving their educational goals.
• Work with adult English Language Learners.
• Participate in onboarding, including completing free background checks and initial training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or high school equivalency.
• Desire to help adult students achieve their educational goals.
• Reside in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, or Maryland.

Qualifications

• Background in English as a Second Language teaching is helpful but not required.
• Background as a K‑12 reading instructor is helpful but not required.
• Comfort teaching adults and working with adult English Language Learners, even without prior teaching experience.
• Willingness to complete training provided by Goodwill.
