Global Students & Experiences Coordinator
About the role
The Global Students & Experiences Coordinator serves as the primary student-facing program coordinator within Global Students and Experiences (GS&E), leading the development, implementation, and oversight of international student programs and services. This role integrates student engagement, program coordination, and immigration compliance functions to support a cohesive and comprehensive approach to international and exchange student success.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement cultural, social, and orientation programming
Lead and implement Global Triton Welcome new international student orientation and ongoing student engagement initiatives
Campus-wide programming supporting international students
Implement and coordinate Globalpalooza
Design and implement programs and initiatives that promote international student retention, persistence, and overall success
Oversee engagement initiatives that support international student integration and campus involvement
Collaborate with student organizations and leadership groups to promote participation and community-building efforts
Serve as a key point of contact for international and exchange students
Oversee processes that support the full exchange program lifecycle, including nomination, application, acceptance, enrollment, preparation, on-site support, and re-entry for inbound and outbound exchange students
Communicate nomination and application deadlines, exchange balances, cost estimates, admissions and visa requirements with partner institutions, and maintain Triton Globetrotter exchange program brochures with current partner institution details
Coordinate closely with immigration compliance processes to ensure exchange student participation aligns with visa regulatory requirements and institutional policies
Maintain accurate records in Terra Dotta software for all study abroad and exchange students and programs
Plan and execute study abroad-related programming, including pre-departure orientations, re-entry programming, study abroad fairs and outreach events, class visits, information sessions, and tabling events
Promote study abroad opportunities to campus stakeholders
Support recruitment and participation growth
Provide general information to students and faculty regarding study abroad and exchange program options, timelines, costs, and deadlines, referring detailed advising inquiries to the Associate Director of Global Experiences
Maintain knowledge of existing programs to support accurate communication and efficient coordination of processes
Monitor exchange participation trends and provide input on program development and improvement opportunities
Serve as a primary point of contact for international and inbound exchange students, providing guidance on engagement, programming, and student experience
Advise and support outbound exchange and study abroad students regarding program identification and selection, academic planning, finances, health and safety, and cultural preparation
Coordinate response to international student concerns in collaboration with campus partners (e.g. UMSL Cares, Residential Life, and Health and Wellness), facilitating appropriate referrals and resolution pathways, and using sound judgment to escalate concerns to GS&E and Student Affairs leadership and crisis response teams
Support outbound students experiencing concerns while abroad by coordinating with host institutions to secure appropriate assistance, monitoring situations to resolution, and elevating complex or high-risk cases to appropriate leadership
Support onboarding and readiness initiatives for inbound F-1 and J-1 students, including Visa Interview Preparation sessions and Pre-Departure Orientation sessions for incoming F-1 and J-1 students to support successful entry to the United States and transition to the UMSL community
Utilize student engagement and support strategies to promote retention and persistence among international and exchange students
Supervise student workers and program leaders
Coordinate advisory boards and student organizations
Represent GS&E to campus stakeholders and external partners
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with campus units including Student Affairs, Academic Colleges, Enrollment Management, and Student Support Services to support international student success
Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
Provide guidance to international and exchange students regarding immigration requirements, status maintenance, and institutional policies
Coordinate with campus partners and external stakeholders to ensure consistent application of immigration-related policies and procedures
Support institutional compliance with federal regulations, including documentation, reporting, and audit readiness
Participate in departmental projects, committees, and initiatives
Engage in professional development opportunities such as NAFSA or the Forum on Education Abroad
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred qualifications include degrees in international relations, international affairs, higher education, communications, event planning, hospitality management, or a related field
Minimum of three years of work experience preferred; one to three years of customer-facing service, international education, and/or event planning experience preferred
Study abroad, living abroad, or other significant international experience preferred
Strong public speaking and presentation skills in both in-person and virtual settings
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and efficiently
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $54,000 - $59,000
