About the role
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) seeks an Information Specialist I for the Communications Department. The GLO primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas by preserving history, maximizing state revenue, and managing state lands and natural resources.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the development, scheduling, and implementation of agency social media content across various platforms.
- Affirms engaging posts, graphics, photos, and short-form videos that support agency initiatives, programs, and events.
- Maintains social media channels and audience engagement, responding to inquiries or directing questions to appropriate staff as needed.
- Tracks and analyzes social media performance metrics and prepares reports for the communications team to evaluate effectiveness, audience growth, and engagement trends.
- Supports the promotion of agency programs, events, conferences, workshops, public meetings, and community outreach initiatives through digital channels.
- Researches current social media trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to identify opportunities for increased audience engagement and awareness.
- Maintains content calendars and ensures consistent messaging across all digital platforms.
- Coordinates the collection and organization of photographic, video, and other multimedia content for use in social media campaigns and agency communications.
- Supports live event coverage, content creation, and other digital communication efforts that enhance the agency’s public presence and outreach goals.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in public relations, communications, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience with developing content creation.
- Experience with drafting press releases, social media content, and communication campaigns.
- Experience with creating excellent communication and tailored messaging for diverse audiences.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign.
- Knowledge of GLO programs.
- Knowledge of basic Spanish language.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily performs sedentary office work; however, mobility is routinely required to carry out some duties.
- Requires extensive computer, telephone, and client/customer contact and communication.
- Requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties.
- Maintains attention to detail despite interruptions.
- Ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
- The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
