About the role

The Gila River Indian Community is seeking a Prosecutor III to serve as a senior prosecutor within the Office of the Prosecutor. This position is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in the Community Court, providing legal advice to law enforcement agencies, and representing the Community in legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute criminal cases in the Community Court, including trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
  • Review and evaluate police reports, evidence, and witness statements to determine appropriate charges.
  • Prepare and present cases in court, including drafting legal documents, motions, and briefs.
  • Provide legal advice and training to law enforcement agencies and other Community departments.
  • Represent the Community in appellate proceedings and other legal matters as required.
  • Collaborate with victim advocates, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to ensure justice for victims and the Community.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Prosecutor or designee.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona or ability to obtain membership within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney, with at least three (3) years of prosecutorial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and tribal laws, as well as the Indian Civil Rights Act and other relevant legal authorities.
  • Strong litigation skills, including experience in trial preparation, courtroom advocacy, and legal research.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including tribal members, law enforcement, and court personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft legal documents and present cases clearly and persuasively.
  • Commitment to upholding the mission and values of the Gila River Indian Community.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, including fingerprinting and drug testing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be available for occasional evening or weekend work as required by case demands.
