About the role
This position serves as a Prosecutor II within the Gila River Indian Community's legal system, handling criminal prosecutions and related legal matters.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute criminal cases in the Community Court, including trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Review police reports, evidence, and legal documents to determine appropriate charges.
- Prepare and present cases in court, including witness interviews, evidence presentation, and legal arguments.
- Negotiate plea agreements and sentencing recommendations with defense attorneys.
- Provide legal advice and training to law enforcement and other agencies within the Community.
- Ensure compliance with tribal, federal, and state laws in all prosecutions.
- Maintain case files and documentation in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
- Collaborate with victim advocates, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to support victims of crime.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with any state bar (ability to waive into Arizona bar required).
- Minimum of three (3) years of prosecutorial or criminal litigation experience.
- Knowledge of federal Indian law, tribal law, and Arizona state law.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume caseload.
- Experience working with Native American communities or tribal governments preferred.
