About the role
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Research Attorney with experience conducting complex legal research and analyzing, reviewing and evaluating pleadings, motions, evidentiary materials, and legal arguments to identify relevant issues and formulate recommendations. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of administrative law principles, administrative adjudication processes, and due process requirements.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and summarizes evidence, procedural history, and legal contentions;
- Researches legal authorities, regulations, and statutory and case law;
- Prepares written summaries, draft rulings, decisions, memoranda, and other legal documents.
Requirements
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), which includes an Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and a Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation.
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications include being a member in good standing of the State Bar of California.
Skills
Knowledge of administrative law principles, administrative adjudication processes, and due process requirements.
