ATTORNEY III
About the role
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division is recruiting for one permanent full-time Attorney III position in its Community Care Licensing (CCL) Enforcement Branch, Riverside Unit. The office location is in Riverside, and the position offers a hybrid work environment with telework at an alternative work location.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice to the Community Care Licensing Division and applicable county clients on complex and sensitive legal matters related to licensing and regulatory compliance.
- Regularly appear before administrative tribunals to represent the interests of those receiving care or residing in community care facilities or children's residential programs.
- Develop evidence, strategies, and tactics to litigate cases involving license revocations, license application denials, and employee and licensee exclusion actions.
- Work with licensing clients, witnesses, and victims, medical staff, qualified experts, investigators, criminal prosecutors, law enforcement personnel, and others to effectively prosecute complex and sophisticated cases including child maltreatment and elder abuse.
- Possess expertise in the application of evidentiary rules, hearsay exception statutes, and other trial-related theory.
- Adept at facilitating settlements and negotiating stipulations where appropriate.
Requirements
This position requires a Background Investigation to be cleared prior to hiring. Applicants must also submit a Summary of Qualifications (SOQ).
Qualifications
The Attorney III position requires a Bachelor's degree in law or a related field, and a valid California Bar License. Prior experience in legal practice, particularly in the area of licensing and regulatory compliance, is highly preferred.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $10,852.00 - $15,325.00 per year, depending on experience.
