General Repair Worker

Full-time, unlimited (permanent) position
Day Shift: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday

About the role

This position performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of maintenance areas, including making adjustments to machinery, replacing parts, repairing buildings, equipment, and miscellaneous articles, and providing assistance to other maintenance staff as needed. This position will work with juvenile residents primarily but may assist with supervision of adult incarcerated individuals as needed. This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals/residents at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Red Wing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed trades workers and repair machinery, tools, and facilities in a timely and safe manner using general methods and practices of various trade areas (e.g., mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry).
  • Apply knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work to perform job duties safely and efficiently.
  • Safely use hand and power tools.
  • Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
  • Fabricate, install, remove, repair, and select proper materials for repair work and renovation within the facility (preferred).
  • Perform basic grounds keeping, snow removal, and irrigation system tasks (preferred).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g., mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry).
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.

Physical Requirements

  • Completion of pre-placement physical components, including tuberculosis and respiratory screening, may be required prior to hire.
  • Selected finalist must review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position.

Additional Requirements

  • Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check, including successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
  • Employment history, reference checks, and review of job performance and discipline records may be conducted.
  • New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
  • The Minnesota Department of Corrections does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
  • All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Pay

$27.24 - $31.35 / hourly
$56,877 - $65,458 / annually
