General Repair Worker

About the role

This position exists to perform semiskilled labor to assist skilled craft employees in maintenance and repair at MCF-Faribault. To train, motivate, direct and supervise offender labor in a maintenance setting so that offenders learn appropriate work behaviors and gain skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure offenders are trained in appropriate work behaviors and gain skills.
• Provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
• Maintain a valid Minnesota Driver's license appropriate with the vehicles they operate.
• May require a MN Class B Commercial Licensure (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement.

Requirements

• Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
• Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas, knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures, ability to safely use hand and power hand tools, ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment, ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
• Preferred Qualifications: Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), experience with commercial floor care practices and making repairs to commercial floor care equipment, experience with lawn care including the ability to operate all types of lawn care equipment, experience with snow plowing including the ability to operate small tractors, plow trucks, snow blowers and front end loaders, current credential as a non-commercial pesticide applicator.

Skills and abilities

• Necessary to fabricate, install, remove, repair and select proper materials to perform various maintenance, repair and construction.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis, commercial driver's license (CDL) drug test, and/or respiratory clearance. The selected finalist may be required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position.

Additional Requirements

• The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.
• New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
