General Manager of Operations
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the engineering and technical teams
- Coordinate engineering resources to support project execution and field operations
- Mentor engineers and technical professionals to ensure strong collaboration and performance
- Manage engineering workloads, priorities, and staffing needs
- Partner closely with the President and division business leaders to support day-to-day business operations
- Help oversee operational planning, technical execution, and departmental coordination
- Align engineering efforts with company goals and project demands
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and team efficiency
- Support mechanical and HVAC project execution across engineering and field teams
- Affirm engineering deliverables support project timelines and client expectations
- Assist with troubleshooting technical challenges across projects and service operations
- Collaborate with project managers, field leaders, and technical specialists
- Support financial performance of projects and engineering activities
- Evaluate operational efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions when appropriate
- Support proposal development and project planning initiatives
- Strengthen relationships with internal teams, partners, and clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 15 to 20+ years of leadership experience within a mechanical, HVAC, facilities management, or technical services environment
- Strong understanding of commercial building systems, including: Mechanical systems, HVAC systems, Electrical systems
- Experience leading teams within organizations such as: Mechanical contractors, HVAC service companies, Facilities management companies, Engineering or technical services firms, Commercial building operations organizations
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage technical teams while coordinating operations and projects
Preferred
- Experience supervising engineers, project managers, or technical teams
- Background in mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering operations, HVAC services, or facility engineering environments
- Exposure to operational planning, financial management, or business leadership
Location
Columbia, Maryland (This position is based in the Columbia office with occasional travel to project sites as needed)
Compensation
Competitive compensation package including: Base salary + performance bonus Target total compensation $180,000 - $200,000+ depending on experience Comprehensive benefits package
