About the role
The General Maintenance position is an entry-level role at Vulcan Materials Company, one of the nation's largest producers of construction aggregates and related materials. This role serves as an introduction to the industry and focuses on learning basic job functions while assessing the employee's potential for long-term development within the company.
Responsibilities
- Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE, and following MSHA/OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of yourself and others.
- Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Follow a preventative maintenance schedule for equipment to avoid unexpected breakdowns, which might involve small component changes, fluid changes, and/or minor tear-downs of equipment.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as removing debris, dust, and sediment from machines, especially in crushers and screening equipment.
- Ensure all necessary tools, equipment, and materials are available and in good condition before starting maintenance tasks.
- Assist and Collaborate on Work
- Follow instructions and work plans to ensure efficient transportation to the correct destination.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers to ensure safe and efficient movement of materials.
Skills
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Experience in maintenance, preferably around heavy equipment and machines.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver's License.
- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA/OSHA regulations. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to work with others and manage time effectively. Physical ability to climb up and down equipment and handle heavy loads.
